Innovative Research, Driving Impactful Reform

Commissioned Projects

Awarded by invitation only, our Commissioned Projects focus on regional governments, democratic systems, and LA County Reform (Measure G) with the goal of increasing communities’ understanding of government reform for more transparent, efficient, and representative local governance.

Governance & Democracy Initiative

Open to all fields of study and disciplines that address governance and democracy in the greater LA region, these grants support evidence-based research in collaboration with communitybased organizations and policymakers, aimed at addressing our communities’ challenges.

Archival Grants

A small portion of grants are available to support relevant and significant archival and cataloging projects important to the LA region and public policy. The fragility, rarity, and completion of projects are considered during grant selection.

Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

The Haynes Lindley Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are awarded to PhD candidates enrolled at universities in the LA region who are working under the guidance of faculty advisors.

Faculty Fellowships

To accommodate our focus on critical issues around governance, democracy, and LA County reform, the Haynes Foundation is phasing out our Faculty Fellowships. We invite faculty to review our other grant opportunities for possible alignment.
